SUBSIDIARY ALLIANCE



  • Introduced by Marquess Wellesly,British Governor general from 1798-1805
  • Acc to this rule,the Indian ruler has to accommodate the British Army and pay for them
  • The ruler should accept a British resident in his state
  • The ruler should not get into any other alliances and should not declare war without the British acceptance.


  • The ruler should acknowledge East India company as the paramount of India.
  • If the ruler fails to pay them,the British has the power to take away part of land owned by the ruler
