AUGUST OFFER - 1940



  • Made on August 8th,1940 on the eve of Battle of Britain
  • The offer made by then Viceroy Lord Lilinthgow promised the expansion of the Governor general's executive council to include more Indian's,establishment of Advisory War council,and the spirit of Indian freedom of constitution
  • Instead,the British wanted Indian's to cooperate in their war affairs
  • The Congress however rejected the offer
